Artist creates giant portrait of Jack Bauer using 1500 London post cards

LONDON, Monday 6th October 2014: A giant canvas of Kiefer Sutherland’s character Jack Bauer, from the critically-acclaimed and Emmy Award winning drama 24 has been installed in Borough Market in central London.

Screen-Shot-2014-10-06-at-15.23.27

The mosaic portrait was created using 1,485 London post cards on a 24 metre square canvas, standing 6 metres high by 4 metres wide.

The artwork was produced in 24 hours using 24 different types of London post cards, to mark the launch of the Blu-ray and DVD release of 24: Live Another Day, out today.

Screen-Shot-2014-10-06-at-15.23.07-528x361

The mosaic features an array of London post cards using iconic images of the City including Big Ben, Beefeaters, The Ritz, London Eye and Black Taxis.

Positioned in Borough Market – a filming location used in 24: Live Another Day – Surrey based multi-media artist Quentin Devine was challenged by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to create the artwork in just 24 hours, meaning one post card had to be laid on the canvas every minute to meet the deadline.

Quentin Devine who devised the giant artwork comments: “Creating a giant Jack Bauer portrait on a 24 metre squared canvas, in 24 hours, using just 24 different types of London post cards, sounds like a challenge fit for the man himself! Just like Jack I had to meticulously plan my strategy, sticking one post card down to the giant 24 metre square canvas every minute, before time ran out. I certainly felt the pressure as the clock was ticking but luckily for me the fate of the World wasn’t resting in my hands. Seeing the final artwork being installed in Borough Market is the perfect homage to the new series 24: Live Another Day. ”

Set in London, 24: Live Another Day sees Kiefer Sutherland return as the infamous hero Jack Bauer, delivering more explosive action than viewers could have hoped for. Exiled in London for four years, former Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer (Sutherland) must spring into action to try to save U.S. President James Heller (William Devane).

24: Live Another Day arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on 6th October from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Taylor Herring win Agency Of The Year at the BVA Awards

Taylor Herring picked up the top award at the BVA’s this week – scooping the coveted Agency Of The Year prize.

The British Video Association honours the best in TV and Movie marketing and retail in the home entertainment sector.

BVA members (including Universal, Fox, Warners, BBC worldwide, Channel 4 and ITV Studios) account for some 90% of this £2 billion+ industry and include film and television companies and independent labels which produce, license and distribute film, sport and fitness, music video, TV, children’s and special interest programming.

About Our Entry;

Taylor Herring has been working as blinkbox’s retained PR agency since January 2013. Media stories mentioning the brand are up to 518% year on year. Viral videos, stunts, social media work and screening events have all captured public attention and helped contribute to a rise in unprompted brand consideration by 200%.

These have led to a 450% increase in transactions from referral traffic. A record breaking festive period saw sales explode 245% compared to the previous year.

What the judges said:

“Sometimes it’s not the size of the budget that counts, but the size of the imagination and Taylor Herring has shown huge ongoing imagination with its PR campaign for Tesco streaming service, blinkbox. Making an impression in a market dominated by Netflix and Amazon/Lovefilm was never going to be easy, but the judges were won over by the creative vision of the Taylor Herring team. The launch of a Gosline, a Ryan Gosling helpline, went viral. It staged a Star Trek Into Darkness inspired teleporter stunt in a shopping centre, hiring twins for a fake transportation routine. For Game of Thrones, the agency created a lifesize dragon skull, placing it on a beach, and gambling on social media to make the connection with blinkbox (it did). ”

Partridge Fever Hits Norwich For Christmas Lights

Movie streaming service blinkbox treated the people of Norwich to a thrilling climax of their official Christmas lights switch on – with a giant SINGING illumination of the town’s most famous export, Alan Partridge.

To mark the release of the Norwich star’s hit movie Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa on the Tesco owned movie streaming service on 2 December, the city’s most famous face was brought to life in the form of an enormous light sculpture, marking a spectacular climax to the city’s switch-on.

As the streets were illuminated with festive sparkle following the official switch on by TV presenter Jake Humphrey who also hails from the town, the giant illuminated Alan Partridge beamed into life, singing along to Cuddly Toy by Roachford – the 80’s anthem that the star mimes along to in Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

In keeping with the film, lighting technicians programmed the custom-built display to lip-sync the lyrics in time.

Engineers said the impressive structure, which was supported by 15 tonnes of scaffolding and eight tonnes of lighting, was taller than a moderately sized travel tavern.

In a dramatic finale, powerful lasers shot from Alan’s eyes projecting ‘80ft giant dancing Alans’ across the town centre and into the skies above.

A team of designers had worked round the clock for over a month to create the display which used over ten thousand lights and ten thousand watts of music power.

The structure also utilised 500 meters of light rope, pyrotechnic explosions, and ‘used enough electricity to run a trouser press for over 25 years.’

Organisers let slip that Alan himself could not attend the event due to a long-standing commitment. But he delivered Christmas wishes to the people of Norwich via his trusty screen sidekick and friend Michael (played by actor Simon Greenall) who read out the following note:

Unknown-4

“Dear people of Norwich, and to a lesser extent anyone here from Suffolk – welcome!   I’m genuinely heart-broken not to be there with you, but it’s quiz night at the Rose & Crown and I’m the designated driver.   You’re about to witness the biggest turning on of lights since the end of the 3-day week. The electricity used to power the illuminations is enough to run a trouser press for over 25 years. Instead, it’s powering an LED effigy of my face and body, lighting up the Christmas night just as the Archangel Gabriel did over two thousand years ago. I hope you have a wonderful festive season. A-HA!”

Unknown-2

Ben Ayers from blinkbox said: ‘To celebrate the release of Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa on blinkbox, we wanted to make a Christmas statement that would match Alan’s enormous ego. We tracked down every light we could find to arrange this spectacular show in his honour. Alan is looking forward to the hefty royalties sure to be generated by views of the movie on blinkbox.’

A representative from the Lord Mayor of Norwich office said: ‘Norwich City Council’s Christmas switch-on is always a special occasion but with Jake Humphrey pressing the button on our brand new display of lights and then the face of Alan Partridge lighting up in all its glory, this really is one to remember.’

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa will be available on blinkbox from 2 December priced at £10.99 to buy and £3.49 to rent.
