GENERATION
NEXT – CHANNEL 4
Throughout
August Channel 4 will be supporting and encouraging the very
hottest new talent via Generation Next - a month long programming
initiative to celebrate the work of ambitious and gifted
TV newcomers. Over four weeks, Channel 4 will be showcasing
the best new writers, directors and onscreen talent across
comedy, drama, documentaries and news. The season kicks off
with the launch of new series ‘The Nightly Show’ on
1st August, which features a heady mix of
stand up and regular sketches produced and performed by brand
new on and off air talent. The laughs continue to come thick
and fast with Channel 4's unique televisual experiment Comedy
Lab, which will also be returning for an 11th year.
Now in its eighth year, Coming Up is the only talent
scheme in the UK where emerging filmmakers have the opportunity
to make an authored drama with a guaranteed network broadcast.
While Channel 4’s teen soap Hollyoaks recently launched
a Generation Next competition to give one budding script
writer the opportunity to write an episode of the show.First
Cut, a strand of 15 half-hour primetime documentaries aimed
at the brightest and best new directing talent, will also
be returning in August and Channel 4 News will be introducing
a journalist scheme, which provides new talent with an opportunity
to produce stories.Channel 4 has a rich
heritage when it comes to breaking new talent. In the
past twenty five years TV luminaries from Peter Kaye, Sacha

FOR THE PLANET
Launched
by ambassador Tana Ramsay, the Playing for The Planet Awards
have been created to celebrate the planet-saving achievements
of Playhouse Disney’s young viewers, their families
and nurseries. The campaign originally launched in May 2007
so the Awards mark a celebration one year on! There are seven
categories available to enter to bring environmentalism to
life in a fun way for preschoolers, families and nurseries,

Autumn, British Middleweight superstar Michael Bisping will
get his first chance to headline in front of his home crowd
when the Ultimate Fighting Championship arrives at the Birmingham
National Indoor Arena on Saturday October 18th.
Bisping will take on established Middleweight contender Chris
Leben and the winner will be one step closer to a shot at
the Middleweight belt against the Champion Anderson Silva.
Coventry’s rising star Dan Hardy will make his UFC
debut and local Birmingham fighter Paul Taylor is also expected
to be on the fightcard. The Ultimate Fighting Championship

party. The series will also explore the club culture that

DIET ON THE DANCEFLOOR – 16th JULY,
9PM (LIVING)
This
summer, get ready to dance yourself fitter and slimmer with
LIVING’s new programme Diet on the Dancefloor. The
series follows ten participants who’d all like to trim
down as they pair up with dance-pro partners in a bid to
boogie away the body fat. Sequins, sparkle, weight loss,
emotional-and physical bumps and bruises are all to be expected
as they aspire to lose weight the fun, glamorous way. Judges
include Strictly Come Dancing’s Karen
Hardy, who waltzed Mark Ramprakash to victory, and Matthew
Cutler, who partnered last year’s winner Alesha Dixon.
Learning a different dance each week, the contributors will
perform in front of Karen and Matthew plus top Sports Physician Dr
Catherine Spencer-Smith. In addition, there will
be challenging costume changes with stylist and mentor Nick
Ede(LK Today, GMTV) on hand to help. Nick will
be sourcing outfits to suit each dance, and helping contestants
conquer their fears over the revealing clothes – clothes
that, over the weeks, will become smaller and more daring.
Participants will be judged not solely on their technique
and style of dance, and weekly ‘lift and hold’,
but also on their improving fitness, weight loss and how
well they carry off their sensational outfits – the

Britain’s
favourite break dancer 14 year old George Sampson won
the hearts of the nation with his street style act , when
13.1 million viewers tuned in to ITV1’s Britain’s
Got Talent to see him dance his way to the winning
spot and a place at this year’s Royal Variety
Performance, as well as scooping the £100,000 prize
money. The final results show of Britain's Got Talent won
an audience of 13.1 million viewers and a share of 55% making
it the UK's highest rated programme of 2008 - beating the

a warm-hearted comedy-drama directed by Philip Saville

tale follows the delight and frustration of four teenage
girls and their obsession with the beautiful game. Julia,

team, Tottenham Hotspur. Twenty years later Julia lands
her dream job becoming the football correspondent on a
National Sunday paper. After her first day of reporting
for Hotspur, she soon ends up reliving her past after being
offered a lift by none other than her childhood hero, Spurs’ then

to 1961 during the good old days when all her and her girlfriends

Shallow
Grave tells
the story of three friends who share a flat in Edinburgh – a
journalist (Ewan McGregor), an accountant (Christopher
Eccleston), and a doctor (Kerry Fox). When the trio decide
to advertise for a new flatmate they hold a sequence of
interviews, eventually taking in the mysterious Hugo (Keith
Allen). When Hugo suddenly dies of a drug overdose
they discover he has left a mysterious legacy in his demise,
in the form of a suitcase full of cash. The three decide
to keep the money and dispose of Hugo's corpse in a "shallow
grave." Straws are then drawn to decide who is going
to dismember the corpse, and the unwilling David (Eccleston)
is lumbered with the task. After discovering his two flatmates
have spent large sums of the money on meaningless items,
David soon becomes a psycopathic recluse. After a series
of visits from the police, he soon decides to leave the
flat with the money and a trail of corpses behind him.
