The British Academy of Songwriters & Composers hired Taylor Herring to handle publicity for The Ivors in 2010, and the agency have now worked alongside them on the event for four years.

The Ivor Novello Awards are internationally respected as Britain’s major platform for recognising songwriting and composing talents.

The awards celebrate the creative forces behind the UK music industry and are judged and presented by the writing community. Now in their 6th decade, the list of previous award winners reads like a who’s who of the British music industry and includes Sir Paul McCartney, Oasis, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Chris Martin, Damon Albarn, Amy Winehouse, Gary Barlow, Mick Jagger, Robbie Williams, Lily Allen and Annie Lennox.

The awards can celebrate artistic excellence in a specific work, exceptional sales or performance figures, or recognise the outstanding achievements of a particular songwriter or composer throughout their career. Over the years the awards have reflected changing tastes in popular music, identifying and celebrating the contribution made by British music both in the UK and across the globe.

The Ivor Novello Awards have been sponsored by PRS for Music for more than thirty years. BASCA, the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, is the professional association for all music writers in the UK; with over 2,000 members, it is the single voice for British music creators. BASCA works to foster a sense of community amongst songwriters, lyricists and composers, and to campaign on their behalf in the domestic, European and international political arenas.

Taylor Herring’s remit is to devise campaigns to increase pre-awareness of both the awards ceremony and the Academy’s work. Taylor Herring also work to promote The Ivors’ long-time sponsors – the Performing Rights Society alongside the media management of the awards themselves – including a star-studded red-carpet and winner’s room - and the nominations event including arranging nominee interviews.

Over the years, Taylor Herring have secured blanket coverage for the nominations and the awards day itself, but during the course of the pre-awareness campaigns have also secured features looking closely at songwriting.

Over the past three years, TH have asked songwriters about what songs mean the most to them and why, for different reasons, and have consistently secured outstanding broadsheet and radio feature coverage.
