Launching The Pacific

pushing the boat out for HBO

HBO briefed us to organise an event to celebrate the launch of The Pacific - the studio's biggest international home video release, ever.

We staged a 1940s themed party on board HMS Belfast for retailers, partners and press from across Europe.

The event was attended by the cast members including the lead actors Jon Seda (John Basilone), Joe Mazzello (Eugene Sledge) and James Badge Dale (Robert Leckie) as well as some of the crew that helped make this epic mini-series come to life. HBO were also very lucky to be joined by Mr. Roy ‘Dusty’ Miller, who fought in the Pacific during WWII.

To bring the 1940’s themed event to life there were jitter bug dancers on deck along with ‘U.S Marine’ actors playing hoopla and cards. The entertainment also included The Vernon Sisters, a three part band who performed 1940’s style music, as well as a 1940’s band. The Overtones, the UK’s favourite male vocal harmony group performed on deck as guests left.

Following a champagne reception, guests were treated to a mixologist who prepared Martini’s and Daiquiris. Girls with trays of Coca Cola and Lucky Strike chocolate cigarettes served throughout the evening and on departure guests were offered a cup of Ovaltine. The food was 1940s themed and goody bags included a ration pack.

The Pacific sold a massive 530,000 units over Q4 making it one of the biggest titles of 2011 in just 9 weeks
