The Best of Never Mind The Buzzcocks on DVD

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Watch the clips that were too rude, too drunk, too nasty, too sweary and too awkward for TV on The Best of Never Mind The Buzzcocks DVD – a must for all fans.

Never Mind The Buzzcocks, the legendary satirical music series known for its dry sarcastic humour and caustic wit, is available to own for the first time on DVD on Monday 16th November courtesy of 4DVD.

The hugely popular show first hit our TV screens in 1996 and became an instant hit with comedy fans. It’s been running for 13 successful years and 22 series later it’s still going strong. With the show’s reputation for the unpredictable, celebrity guests are primed for the occasional embarrassment and harmless ribbing, as their knowledge of music is put to the test.

Featuring the best bits from the last 3 series hosted by award winning comedian Simon Amstell, fans can relive his most cutting remarks and riotous banter that make this DVD unmissable viewing.

Long-serving team captain Phill Jupitus joins Simon on the DVD as they look back at some of the most memorable and controversial moments – where no celebrities are off limits to their verbal sparring. Re-live the iconic moments when Preston stormed out, Amy Winehouse spat on the floor and a drunken Donny Tourette was ridiculed by Simon and Bill Bailey.

The Best of Never Mind the Buzzcocks also boasts exclusive, never-before-aired deleted material with some of the show’s rudest comments and funniest scenes that didn’t make TV, including highlights of the most-talked about and controversial comedian, Russell Brand.

Russell infamously appeared as guest captain in an episode that has never been broadcast due to his suspension from the BBC. Excitingly, fans can watch hilarious highlights of this episode which features Russell’s lewd banter with celebrity guest Rachel Stevens and Russell threatening to walk off Preston style as Simon reads extracts from his Booky Wook.

Since the departure of team captain Bill Bailey, celebrities have been queuing up to have a go; guest captains have included Noel Fielding, Dermot O’Leary, James Corden, Mark Ronson, and Stephen Fry.

Featured on the DVD are the special compilation episodes from the last 3 series:

• Never Mind The Buzzcocks – Technically The Best Series Ever. A thrilling look back at what were ultimately some excellent moments from the last series. Featuring a galaxy of incredibly good celebrity bookings and many, many extremely funny sentences.
• Never Mind The Buzzcocks – A Moving Tribute. A touching retrospective on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
• Never Mind The Buzzcocks… Imagine a mildly amusing panel show. Alan Yentob in a highly thought, insightful and rare interview with Simon Amstell, about the pressures of hosting the popular music quiz. Yentob takes a look back at the most talked about moments from the series.

Bonus material includes a brand new 45 minute feature created especially for the DVD, including:
• Even more previously unseen material
• Bloopers
• Newly filmed material and commentary from Simon Amstell & Phill Jupitus

A Chat Show Like No Other! Chelsea Shakes Up Late Night TV

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

The US’s most acid tongued, hedonistic chat show host unleashes her quick witted wisdom on UK audiences, as Chelsea Lately switches to 10:30pm on E! Entertainment (Sky 151/Virgin Media 156), from Monday 20th July.

chelsea-handler

Famed for her outspoken opinions each weeknight chat Queen Chelsea Handler welcomes an assortment of high profile stars and rising talents onto her panel for gossip, debate, and, on occasion, confrontation.

Boasting an inimitable blend of humour and drama, Chelsea Handler is the only female late night US chat show host, and second in history only to fellow comedic legend Joan Rivers.

The half hour show opens with Chelsea’s trademark, headline grabbing monologues, followed by a “Round Table” format in which Chelsea and three guests from the world of comedy, entertainment and journalism wax lyrical on the pop culture issues of the day.

With her take-no-prisoners style, Chelsea is no stranger to controversy, and has a less than likeable stance on certain celebrities – Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Amy Winehouse, Miley Cyrus and Lindsey Lohan have all incurred her wrath. Chelsea’s candid questioning and irreverent take on showbiz has attracted guests including Sharon Osbourne, Katy Perry, The Jonas Brothers, and even British comedy counterpart John Cleese and Russell Brand.

Edgy comedienne Chelsea will be hitting the streets to uncover stories of real people in surreal and ridiculous situations, exploring Hollywood’s coolest quirks and trendiest crazes, presenting her very own tongue-in-cheek take on everything from plastic surgery addicts to paparazzi intrusion.

Definitely not for the shy and retiring…a TV chat show experience like no other!

Chelsea Handler won a Bravo A List Award for “A-List Funny” in April 2009, and has performed in stand up across the US. As well as her successful TV ventures, she has also authored two books that have fast propelled themselves onto the New York Times Bestseller List. Her memoirs, My Horizontal Life: A Collection Of One Night Stands, were followed by an unconventional collection of essays, Are You There Vodka, It’s Me Chelsea. She has also co-hosted The View, US television’s answer to Loose Women.

Ivor Novello Awards Nominations Announced

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

LONDON. Tuesday 21st April: A little known musician who is currently employed as a warehouse worker has joined the cream of British song writing talent as a nominee for this year’s 54th Ivor Novello Awards. Other nominees this year include Duffy and Coldplay.

717020935 year old Nick Hemming, the guitarist and chief songwriter from the little known indie band, The Leisure Society is now set to fight it out with industry heavyweights Elbow and Miles Kane and Alex Turner from The Last Shadow Puppets for the award of ‘Best Song Musically and Lyrically’ when the awards take place at London’s Grosvenor House on the 21st May.

Staffordshire born Nick is nominated for the band’s self published and self produced debut single; ‘The Last of the Melting Snow’, which was released to widespread critical acclaim in December 2008. The single failed to reach the Top 40 despite receiving extensive radio support including a coveted ‘Record of the Week’ slot on Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie’s Radio 2 show. The track has also been championed by his chief rival for the award – Elbow front man Guy Garvey who named it his favourite song of 2008.

Nick, who once played in the band ‘She Talks To Angels’ with actor Paddy Considine, film director Shane Meadows and bassist Richard Eaton, has also written and performed music for the films ‘A Room for Romeo Brass’ and ‘Dead Man’s Shoes.’

Nick Hemming commented “I worked in a record shop for many years and I can remember reading about the Ivors, thinking how it would be the coolest award to win as it’s decided on artistic rather than commercial merit. I went straight onto the Ivors website after I’d received the nomination letter and found endorsements from Paul McCartney and John Barry, two of my biggest musical heroes. It all feels a little surreal at the moment; I’m incredibly flattered that so many people have taken such a personal song to their hearts.”

Patrick Rackow, Chief Executive of BASCA commented “Once again the breadth of the works nominated shows the health of British music writing and the range of talent. I am particularly pleased to see new names on the list of nominees and would like to thank this year’s judges for all of their hard work”

Held at the Grosvenor House on Thursday 21st May 2009, The Ivors are presented by BASCA in association with PRS for Music, and continue to be acknowledged as one of the most coveted awards in the industry. Previous winners include Sir Paul McCartney, Madonna, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Sting, Annie Lennox and Radiohead.
