Canal creates “Versailles for Kids” themed activity pack to keep the kids occupied so you can enjoy the more sensual scenes uninterrupted

TV show Versailles has come under a lot of scrutiny from the press in the past due to the many depictions of sexual activity within each episode. From graphically passionate rendezvous to even the odd ménage à trois it is enough to get anyone hot under the collar.

The second series, premiering tonight, continues to follow the exploits of the court of King Louis XIV and promises to be its raunchiest, most debauched season yet, rivalling the likes of even Game of Thrones. However network Canal+ and advertising agency BETC have decided to deliver humour in their latest tongue-in-cheek campaign which aims to distract your kids so you can watch the show, in all of its decadent glory, without disruption.

Their latest promotional product “Versailles for Kids” includes apps and games available for Android & iOS with levels or tasks that take 52 minutes to complete, conveniently the same running time as an episode. Also up for grabs are magic boxes, gardening kits and king dress-up costumes, all with the purpose of keeping the little innocent ones busy to avoid the adults having to make those awkward excuses or diving frantically for the remote when the steamy scenes come onscreen.

As a result  over 9 million people were reached with the campaign, with 6 million media impressions and 50 percent brand engagement. Moreover over 4,000 toys were won in total. That is a lot of happy kids!

Although with the show airing at 9:30pm, it’s my firm belief that the kids should be ushered off to bed by then so you’re able to open that chilled bottle of wine, unwind for a while and if the fancy takes you, enjoy the odd French sex scene in peace.

A life-size chocolate sculpture of the acclaimed actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been unveiled following a national poll which named the star as Britain’s dishiest TV drama actor.

The Sherlock star beat off strong competition from Broadchurch’s David Tennant, rumoured potential James Bond Idris Elba and Aidan Turner, current star of Poldark to claim the tasty title ahead of the forthcoming Easter weekend break.

The research, which surveyed 2000 British women, and subsequent chocolate sculpture, were specially commissioned to celebrate today’s launch of TV channel Drama on UKTV’s on demand service, uktvplay.co.uk.

The top ten dishiest TV drama actors:

1 Benedict Cumberbatch 12%
2 David Tennant 11%
3 Sean Bean 8%
4 Idris Elba 8%
5 Damian Lewis 5%
6 Aidan Turner 4%
7 James Nesbitt 3%
8 Rupert Penry-Jones 3%
9 Laurence Fox 2%
10 James D’Arcy 2%

A crew of eight worked on the construction of Cumberbatch’s confectionary counterpart; a process which took over 250 man hours. The team, including a sculptor, chocolatier and model maker began by interrogating the actor’s measurements and assessing images from red carpet appearances to help them perfect Benedict’s look and create an accurate model even down to the smallest detail.

A suited and booted homage was chosen to reflect the star’s numerous red carpet appearances over the last year and a base model was painstakingly sculpted before the final model was cast entirely out of luxuriously thick, hollow Belgian milk chocolate – weighing in at 40kg. Once the chocolate had set, the team perfected and defined Benedict’s distinctive features, to ensure the star looked red carpet ready.

Lead sculptor Tim Simpson said: “You can’t rush perfection. Benedict has such a distinctive look that it was a challenge but a pleasure, to recreate him in chocolate. A secret combination of methods ensured we got a great likeness – we’re sure his legions of fans will approve!”

Benedict Cumberbatch will next be seen on Drama in Silent Witness, 12th April at 9pm, whilst James Nesbitt and Rupert Penry-Jones also feature this season. Sean Bean stars in Sharpe, which is on the channel this summer. Viewers will be able to enjoy watching Damian Lewis in The Forsyte Saga and David Tennant in United on uktvplay.co.uk from today.

Adrian Wills, General Manager of Drama said: “With Drama launching on UKTV Play this Easter, it was the perfect opportunity to pay homage to the fantastic talent we have on the channel, including of course, Benedict Cumberbatch. Hopefully he’ll make it through Easter weekend in one piece.

Cumberbatch-10

A life-size sculpture of Benedict Cumberbatch made out of chocolate was unveiled today to celebrate the launch of Drama on UKTV’s on demand service uktvplay.co.uk from 1st April.

The sculpture will be at Westfield Stratford City on Friday 3rd April. To follow the action, use the hashtag #chocobatch

· Commuters stunned as Sky Atlantic unleashes hyper-realistic, full sized ‘adult Polar Bear’ on the streets of London
· Activation celebrates the launch of arctic based crime drama ‘Fortitude’
· Intricate semi-animatronic design took 19 designers two months to construct
· Bear animated by two character actors from hit West End show ‘War Horse’

LONDON, Tuesday 27th January: An 8 ft long, fully animated ‘adult male polar bear’ was unleashed on the freezing streets of London this morning to mark the launch of Sky Atlantic’s hotly anticipated arctic crime drama ‘Fortitude’.

The bear was spotted at locations across the capital, including Hampstead Heath, Charing Cross Underground and the South Bank.

The unique ultra-realistic build was created by a team of Hollywood special effects experts and was commissioned by Sky Atlantic to celebrate the launch of its gripping new thriller, Fortitude, premiering on Thursday 29th January at 9pm. The series boasts an all-star cast including Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci, acting legend Michael Gambon and Christopher Eccleston. With a stellar cast, the critically acclaimed 11-episode thriller is set to wow audiences thanks to its compelling plot and the jaw dropping cinematography.

A team of 19 prop specialists spent eight weeks designing and building the realistic replica animal.

There were six to eight people working on the costume at any one time, using over 60 types of materials which included 90 square foot of sheet fur.

The finish of the head was achieved using a process known as flocking, which involves feeding individual strands of nylon hair into the skull and then using an electrostatic current which causes the hairs to stand up on end. Over the top of the flock longer hairs are individually hand punched into place in directions seen in natural growth.

The highly sophisticated prop uses internal monitors linked to hidden cameras, allowing the two performers inside to see. The puppeteers, who spent three years working together as ‘Joey’ in the award-winning West End production of War Horse, studied footage of real polar bears before spending five days rehearsing in order to get the gait and other movements right.

Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic, says, “In Fortitude, there are 3000 polar bears to 713 residents. Polar bears are the most dangerous animal on land and present an ever present threat to Fortitude’s inhabitants. To launch our new Arctic-noir thriller we wanted to bring a realistic polar bear to the streets of London to give people an up close experience of what it must be like to come face to face with one of the biggest, but uncredited stars of our new show.”
