Ruby Gettinger has hit crisis point – her excessive eating has caused her weight to spiral out of control, lost her the love of her life, and the battle to shed the pounds has now become a matter of life and death. Exclusive to The Style Network (Sky Channel 253) from Tuesday 10th November at 10pm, Ruby is an inspiring and heart felt portrayal of an extraordinary woman’s emotional quest to lose weight, help others, and ultimately change her life forever.

Providing an intimate view into one woman’s struggle with obesity, viewers are invited inside the incredible life of Ruby Gettinger, a 500 pound young woman living in Georgia. Having hit a peak of 715 pounds back in 1995, Ruby’s weight has fluctuated at a dangerous level ever since, but events take a drastic turn when Ruby’s doctor issues her with a terrifying ultimatum – lose weight or lose your life.

Spurred on by an unfounded sense of determination, and her supportive network of loyal friends, Ruby resolves to take immediate action, embarking on an awe inspiring journey that she hopes will turn her life around. Assembling a super team of dieticians, personal trainers and psychologists, all of whom are committed to educating and motivating her, Ruby undertakes the biggest challenge she’s ever faced….and she’s taking the world with her. Can she end her cycle of food addiction, and most importantly take her first tentative steps down the road towards health and happiness?

Offering viewers a rare opportunity to see the world through the obese person living in a sizeist society, witness Ruby as she struggles through seemingly ordinary daily activities, from sitting down to getting dressed.

The documentary series also evaluates Ruby’s amazing friendships, following the close circle of allies who have followed her trials and tribulations over the years. Proving crucial towards combating her unhealthy eating and inactive lifestyle, as well as helping her to cope with her diabetes diagnosis, Ruby’s fiercely loyal loved ones are on hand to help her stay on track, no matter how difficult her life enhancing experience becomes…

Tracked by cameras every step of the way, Ruby’s prognosis has already captured the hearts and minds of America, with the series quickly becoming the highest rated in the history of The Style Network. Now Ruby’s arriving on UK shores, and from Tuesday 14th November, she’ll be impossible to miss…

Ruby is produced by Gay Rosenthal Productions with Gay Rosenthal and Paul Barosse as Executive Producers and Nicholas Caprio and Victoria Zielinski as Co-Executive Producers working with Style’s Executive Producer Sarah Weidman. Consulting Executive Producers are Tim Puntillo and Brittany Daniel.

The flagship ITV show about children from different social backgrounds was made between 1964 and 2005 – as they evolved through life.

This forward thinking television show – the very first example of a programme recording real people living real lives – and the follow-up documentaries – have won an array of accolades and awards. D

Director Michael Apted, who has since moved to Hollywood to direct films, has returned every seven years to chart the children’s progress through life. Over the past five decades, the series has documented the group as they have become adults and entered middle-age, dealing with everything life has thrown at them in between.
